T.C. Steele Singing Winds Visitor Center
Melding into the Brown County landscape and inviting visitors to experience T.C. and Selma Steele's sanctuary.
What started as a simple restroom facility to replace outdated and undesirable pit toilets morphed into a visitor and education center for the T.C. Steele State Historic site, dedicated to the life and works of Indiana’s beloved artist of the Hoosier Group, T.C. Steele and his wife Selma.
The Singing Winds Visitor Center was designed to meld into the landscape and context of the Steele’s home, studio, gardens, and various other contributing buildings as part of this Indiana State Museum Historic site. The facility expanded the visitor experience by providing event space, fully accessible restrooms, an expanded gift shop and viewing decks and covered porches to experience the beautiful Brown County landscape that Steele so perfectly captured in his many impressionistic paintings.
